State administrations in Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra have rolled out significant relief measures for citizens and festival organizers ahead of the upcoming Ganeshotsav celebrations. These policy decisions are designed to ease financial burdens and streamline travel during one of the most widely celebrated festivals of the region.
Free Electricity for Puja Pandals in Andhra Pradesh
The Andhra Pradesh government has introduced a major concession for groups organizing community celebrations during the festival. State education minister Nara Lokesh announced through a social media post that all temporary pandals erected for Ganesh Chaturthi will receive electricity completely free of charge. Organizers will no longer need to pay for the power consumed by elaborate decorations, lighting arrangements, and sound systems, significantly reducing the overall expense of setting up community celebration sites.
Toll Tax Waiver for Travelers Headed to Konkan in Maharashtra
In a parallel move, the Maharashtra government has announced travel concessions for people journeying home for the festivities. Maharashtra PWD minister Shivendra Singhraje Bhosale stated that individuals traveling from Mumbai toward the Konkan region will be exempted from paying toll taxes on designated major routes during the celebration period.
Specific Highways Exempted from Toll Collection
Toll collection will remain suspended from September 11 through September 27 on the Goa Highway and the Pune-Bengaluru Highway, which serve as primary transit corridors from Mumbai to Konkan. This temporary waiver directly benefits families traveling to their native towns and villages in Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, and the broader Konkan region for the annual homecoming. Travelers using these routes will save roughly 650 to 700 rupees in toll fees. Furthermore, the removal of toll stops is expected to reduce vehicular congestion at toll plazas, minimizing holiday traffic bottlenecks and making the seasonal commute much smoother.
