A school companion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has received significant relief following a high-level intervention. Shortly after meeting the Prime Minister, the 81-year-old childhood friend saw a sudden turnaround in a long-standing property dispute. Asghar Ali Vora had approached Prime Minister Modi to complain about an alleged takeover of his roughly 2,810-square-meter plot of land located in Bhayander. Within days of this interaction, BJP MLA Narendra Mehta announced his decision to relinquish control of the contested property. Furthermore, the politician also decided to withdraw the complaints previously filed against the Prime Minister's classmate.
The Childhood Connection and Direct Appeal
The entire episode revolves around Asghar Ali Vora, an 81-year-old resident of Mira Road, who met his old schoolmate Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During their meeting, Vora complained that his land in Bhayander had been taken over by a construction firm owned by BJP MLA Narendra Mehta. Just days after this discussion, the political leader stated on Tuesday that he was walking away from the disputed land and surrendering the construction approvals obtained for that specific plot.
History of the Purchase and Alleged Takeover
According to reports, Narendra Mehta also confirmed the withdrawal of his earlier police complaints against Asghar Ali Vora. Vora had studied alongside Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the BN School in Vadnagar, Gujarat. He met the Prime Minister on September 8 and urged him to intervene in the ongoing dispute. Vora explained that he had originally purchased the land measuring about 2,810 square meters in Navghar, Bhayander East, back in 1989, but claimed that the plot was taken over in 2011 by Swayam Builders and Mehta's Seven-Eleven Constructions.
Government Intervention and High-Level Meeting
Asghar Ali Vora noted that he had spent nearly 15 years running from pillar to post among various government departments to resolve the issue. He mentioned receiving a positive response during his meeting with Prime Minister Modi, after which bureaucratic wheels began to turn swiftly. On Tuesday, a formal meeting was convened at Mantralaya by the Chief Minister's Principal Secretary, Shrikar Pardeshi. The session was attended by Asghar Ali Vora, MLA Mehta, Mira-Bhayander Municipal Commissioner Radha Binod Sharma, and Town Planner Purushottam Shinde.
Written Surrender and Settlement of Legal Complaints
During the meeting, MLA Narendra Mehta submitted a formal letter to the town planning department stating that he was relinquishing possession of the disputed land and surrendering the construction permits. Mehta stated in the letter that the property had originally been purchased from Mervin Fernandes in 2019. In a separate communication addressed to the Police Commissioner, the MLA confirmed that he was withdrawing his prior complaint against Vora since a mutual understanding and settlement had been reached between the parties involved.
