Punjab Police have neutralized the prime accused, identified as Deepak Singh, in the fatal shooting of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Harjeet Singh in Amritsar. The suspect was cornered within 45 hours of the crime, sustained severe gunshot injuries during an exchange of fire with security personnel, and subsequently succumbed to his wounds while undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Fatal Attack at Bhagtanwala Grain Market
The incident stems from the daylight killing of ASI Harjeet Singh at the Bhagtanwala grain market in Amritsar. The officer was shot dead while on duty, triggering an immediate manhunt across the district. Specialized operational units cordoned off surrounding routes and combed nearby hideouts to track down the assailants involved in the targeted attack.
Encounter Within 45 Hours and Hospital Demise
Acting on operational intelligence, police teams zeroed in on Deepak Singh within 45 hours of the officer's murder. When confronted and asked to surrender, the suspect initiated gunfire against the approaching police party, drawing retaliatory fire. Sustaining critical injuries during the encounter, Deepak was shifted to a medical facility, where attending doctors pronounced him dead.
