Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has granted formal approval to transfer the technology of all conventional missile systems developed by DRDO to Indian industries for domestic manufacturing. This strategic technology transfer aims to substantially elevate the role of Indian enterprises in defense production, bridging the gap between advanced research and large-scale industrial output.
New Avenues for MSMEs and Domestic Manufacturers
The initiative is designed to fortify the country's domestic manufacturing ecosystem and broaden the foundational base of defense industries. Under this framework, Indian companies that successfully fulfill necessary qualifications, rigorous certifications, and regulatory mandates will become eligible to undertake indigenous production of these missile systems. Officials note that this change will create lucrative opportunities for Indian MSMEs and various technology partners to integrate deeply into the national defense supply chain.

Prior to this major clearance, Rajnath Singh had virtually laid the foundation stone for five expansion projects belonging to Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers along with Yantra India Limited. Addressing those gatherings, he emphasized that India possesses the inherent capability to emerge as a global shipbuilding epicenter and can capitalize on the production vacuum left by traditional shipbuilding nations whose manufacturing activities are slowing down.

Highlighting the rapid modernization of maritime and defense technologies, the defense minister noted that India must seize the opportunity presented by changing global manufacturing trends. He also recalled the transformative journey of India's defense sector over the past 12 years while addressing armed forces personnel through All India Radio on the eve of the 80th Independence Day, reiterating the nation's firm resolve toward comprehensive defense autonomy.
