Recalling events from the immediate aftermath of independence, Nityanand Rai pointed out that on the very first day of freedom, Pandit Omkarnath Thakur sang the full version of Vande Mataram on All India Radio. He stated that this historic broadcast took place under the explicit directions of India's first Home Minister, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The government emphasized that the current amendment safeguards the sanctity of the national song and ensures legal accountability for any disrespect shown toward its singing.
