Agricultural authorities in Firozabad district have streamlined the fertilizer distribution process to ensure farmers face no shortage of essential nutrients during the Kharif crop season. Previously, many farmers encountered significant hurdles at cooperative societies due to the lack of a formal Farmer Registry or minor discrepancies in land records, often returning empty-handed. To resolve these operational difficulties, flexible distribution mechanisms have been introduced, enabling both land-owning farmers and sharecroppers to obtain urea and other vital fertilizers without delay.
Alternative Verification for Farmers Without Registry
The mandatory requirement of a Farmer Registry at cooperative societies frequently led to procedural delays for local cultivators. Firozabad Agriculture Officer Sumit Chauhan stated that if a farmer's Khatauni record contains spelling errors or incorrectly listed names, the issue will be formally logged at the cooperative society level itself. Under the new protocol, farmers will not need to make repeated visits. Instead, officials will utilize alternative authentication options available on POS machines, allowing farmers to receive their allocated urea supply via biometric thumb verification.
Streamlined OTP System for Sharecropping Cultivators
A significant portion of agriculture in Firozabad relies on farmers who cultivate land under sharecropping or ugai agreements without holding direct land ownership. Special provisions have been outlined to support these sharecroppers. To purchase fertilizer, the sharecropper must provide the Aadhaar card of the original landowner. Upon entering the details into the POS machine, a one-time password (OTP) will be dispatched to the registered mobile number. Once the OTP is successfully validated, the fertilizer will be issued immediately, eliminating complaints regarding supply denial.
Fulfilling Nutrient Demands for Major Kharif Crops
During the Kharif farming cycle, farmers across Firozabad cultivate major crops including bajra, paddy, pulse crops such as moong and urad, alongside various oilseeds. Timely application of urea fertilizer is critical during the initial growth stages to ensure robust crop health and maximize yield. Disruptions in fertilizer availability due to documentation mismatches can jeopardize entire harvests. The updated distribution system ensures that every genuine farmer receives adequate nutrients precisely when required in the field.
District Maintains 17,856 Metric Tonnes of Urea Stock
Addressing overall fertilizer availability in the region, Agriculture Officer Sumit Chauhan confirmed that 17,856 metric tonnes of urea have been stored in Firozabad district to prevent any supply deficit. In addition to urea, the district has secured 6,993 metric tonnes of DAP and 3,429 metric tonnes of NPK fertilizers. Stock levels are being continuously augmented across all local cooperative societies, ensuring that farmers can purchase required fertilizers from their nearest distribution centers without encountering shortages.
