In Rudraprayag district, the Alaknanda and Mandakini rivers have swelled considerably, driving local authorities and the district disaster management department to issue a high alert for nearby habitations. Residents living along the riverbanks have been strongly urged to shift to safer locations as a precautionary step. Furthermore, administrative officials have asked locals and travelers alike to strictly comply with the weather advisories released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heavy downpours in the upper reaches of the Himalayas are directly feeding into the river networks of Rudraprayag. Intense rainfall in high-altitude zones such as Chamoli and Kedarnath has rapidly augmented the volume of water flowing into the Mandakini river. Although disaster management officials note that the Mandakini's water level is currently measured below the official warning mark, any sudden influx could push it past critical limits, requiring immediate protective action.
Explaining the emergency protocol, District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh Rajwar stated, "If the water level increases significantly, local municipal authorities, the police, and disaster management teams will actively alert the public and issue final warnings to move away from the riverbanks." Field personnel are conducting round-the-clock surveillance along vulnerable stretches of the river to manage potential flooding risks effectively.

The weather observatory has placed several regions under heightened monitoring due to continuous intermittent spells of rain across Uttarakhand. For Thursday, an Orange Alert has been sounded for Dehradun, Chamoli, and Bageshwar districts, where heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and strong winds is expected. Simultaneously, a Yellow Alert remains in effect for Haridwar, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Pauri, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Nainital, and Rudraprayag districts.
Meteorological officials warn that intense localized showers could trigger landslides, mudflows, and rockfalls on steep hill slopes. Such geohazards pose risks to key transport corridors, potentially causing road blockages and temporary disruptions to interstate and inter-district traffic.

The Chief Minister instructed senior officials to ensure that local administration and rescue teams maintain constant vigilance to handle any emerging crisis promptly.
Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman confirmed that the State Emergency Operation Centre is maintaining continuous monitoring over rain-affected zones throughout Uttarakhand. He highlighted that with forecasts indicating localized heavy rain, lightning strikes, and squally winds, all concerned government departments have been placed on standby mode to respond swiftly to emergencies.
