A devastating road accident on the Surat-Chennai Expressway in Karnataka's Yadgir district has claimed the lives of four individuals. The incident occurred near Ibrahimpur in Shahapur taluk when a car slammed directly into the concrete structure of an under-construction bridge. The occupants were returning to their native village after seeking blessings at the revered Bhavani Devi Temple in Tuljapur, Maharashtra.
Details of the Devastating Collision
The victims had visited the shrine on November 7 and were travelling back when the tragedy took place. The driver lost control of the speeding vehicle, causing it to crash head-on into the unfinished bridge infrastructure. The collision was so forceful that the car was completely crushed. Two passengers died instantly at the scene due to severe impact injuries. Emergency responders dispatched the remaining two critically injured victims to a nearby hospital, but both succumbed to their injuries after a few hours of treatment.
Victims Identified and Legal Proceedings
Authorities have confirmed the identities of all four deceased individuals as Gururaj Suresh Chavan (29), Reddy Bagla Rathod (33), Govinda Sitya Chavan (28), and Kumar Ramu Rathod (26). Local law enforcement from the Shahapur police station arrived at the location to inspect the wreckage and manage traffic flow. A formal case has been registered at the Shahapur police station, and officials have launched an investigation into the precise circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
Surat-Chennai Expressway Infrastructure Context
The Surat-Chennai Expressway is designed to traverse six major states—Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu—drastically reducing travel duration between economic hubs like Surat, Nashik, Solapur, Tirupati, and Chennai from 36 hours down to just 16 hours. Nevertheless, unlit construction hazards and speeding along partially opened corridors continue to present severe risks for long-distance motorists.
