A massive financial fraud exceeding 35 crore rupees has come to light at a Punjab National Bank branch located in the Pi-1 sector of Greater Noida, triggering widespread panic among account holders. As news of the alleged irregularities spread rapidly, scores of worried customers rushed to the bank branch to question officials about their life savings. Numerous depositors reported that their fixed deposits and account balances had mysteriously vanished, plunging them into severe financial distress.
Bank Management Assures Investigation and Recovery
Addressing the escalating situation, Punjab National Bank Chief Manager Rajesh Nigam urged customers to remain calm, assuring them that everyone's money is safe and that an internal audit is currently underway. He maintained that checking procedures are active within the bank and all depositors will eventually receive their funds. However, the branch manager declined to divulge specific details about the mechanics of the scam, asking for more time to handle the situation. He also clarified that the irregularities are confined solely to this particular branch and have not affected any other locations.
Heartbroken Depositors Share Their Ordeal
Distressed customers gathered outside the branch voiced their anger and despair over the breach of trust in a state-backed institution. A depositor named Amarpal revealed that he held three fixed deposits totaling 80 lakh rupees in the bank, only to discover that they had been mysteriously closed and siphoned off without his consent. He stated that a formal complaint was lodged at the local police station, yet no concrete action has been taken so far. According to him, bank officials are merely offering vague reassurances that the funds will reflect in their accounts within 10 to 15 days. He added that people invested in a public sector bank expecting absolute security, and appealed to both the state and central governments to intervene and transfer the lost money back into their accounts immediately.
Another aggrieved customer, Brijesh Kumar, shared that his account balance of 1.18 crore rupees was reduced to absolute zero when he visited the branch to make a withdrawal. Although the manager assured him that the funds would be recovered before Diwali, the customer expressed deep skepticism regarding the promise. Similarly, a female depositor named Bina stated that she chose a government bank believing her savings would remain secure, never anticipating such a betrayal. Bank officials have instructed affected individuals to submit written applications to claim their refunds, though no definitive timeline has been provided. While bank management continues to reassure customers that their funds are protected and the situation will clear up once investigations conclude, depositors remain anxious as they await the return of their hard-earned money.
