Showing off illegal firearms on social media turned out to be a costly mistake for two young men in North East Delhi's Gokalpuri locality. After images and videos of the youths brandishing weapons surfaced on social networking platforms like Instagram, the local police took swift action. Teams from the Gokalpuri police station apprehended both suspects and recovered two country-made pistols along with five live cartridges from their possession.

Upon noticing the police officers, the youth attempted to flee. However, the police team chased him down and caught him after a short pursuit. A personal search of the detained individual yielded one country-made pistol and two live cartridges. He was identified as 20-year-old Vishal alias Puchhu, a resident of Sanjay Colony in Gokalpuri.
Second Suspect Intercepted Near Another Neighborhood Park
On the same night, a second police patrol team spotted another suspect near the DDA Park in A Block. Head Constable Vipin Kumar and Head Constable Arun signaled the youth to stop, but he immediately tried to run away. The alert police officers chased him down and successfully intercepted him a short distance away. Upon searching him, officers recovered one country-made pistol and three live cartridges. The arrested person was identified as 19-year-old Sagar alias Biryani, who also resides in Sanjay Colony, Gokalpuri.
Instagram Posts Lead to FIR Under Arms Act
Further investigation revealed that Sagar had uploaded a photo posing with a firearm on his Instagram account. Police noted that both accused individuals were seen together displaying weapons on social media platforms. Following these findings, Gokalpuri police station registered a case under Section 25 of the Arms Act and formally arrested both youths. A check of their police records revealed that 20-year-old Vishal has no prior criminal history. On the other hand, 19-year-old Sagar alias Biryani was previously involved in an attempt-to-murder case. Investigators are now probing the source of the illegal firearms to determine where the duo procured them from and whether the weapons were used in any past criminal activities.
