With Cyclone Murasu weakening in the vicinity of the Bay of Bengal, weather conditions across South India are taking a distinctive turn. Meteorological projections indicate cloudy skies coupled with rain showers and thunderstorms across five prominent urban centres, including Bengaluru, Chennai, Amaravati, Hyderabad, and Thiruvananthapuram, on November 5, 2026. Concurrently, ambient air quality across all these metropolitan hubs remains in the good to satisfactory brackets, offering clean atmospheric conditions to local residents.
Karnataka Districts on Alert for Heavy Showers and Wind Gusts
Vigorous meteorological activity is expected across the southern and interior pockets of Karnataka. Isolated locations across Chamarajanagara, Kodagu, and Mysuru districts are on watch for heavy rain or thundery showers accompanied by gusty winds ranging between 30 and 40 km/h. At the same time, light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers with similar wind gusts of 30 to 40 km/h are likely over scattered areas in Mandya, Ramanagara, Hassan, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, and Kolar districts.
Forecasters anticipate that this wet regime will not remain confined to a single day, with light to moderate precipitation expected to persist through November 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th. Ground reports from Bengaluru reflect intermittent sunshine interspersed with cloud cover and active thunderstorms in parts of the urban sprawl. Temperatures in the city stood around 21 degrees Celsius, with late evening thunderstorms anticipated. Overall daily temperatures are projected to fluctuate between a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 31 degrees Celsius alongside drizzle or light precipitation.
Gusty Conditions Projected for Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Amaravati
The remnants of the weather disturbance are slated to generate high wind velocities across the eastern coastline. Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema could encounter squally winds measuring 40 to 50 km/h, with intermittent gusts accelerating up to 60 km/h in isolated pockets.
Over Amaravati, skies will remain predominantly cloudy, accompanied by one or two spells of rain or thunderstorms. Thermometers in the regional capital are expected to record daytime highs near 31 degrees Celsius, while nighttime minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 24 degrees Celsius.
Precipitation Patterns Across Chennai and Hyderabad
In Chennai, conditions will remain conducive to light to moderate rainfall, with lightning and thunder activity anticipated across designated municipal zones. Night temperatures are forecast to register between 25 and 26 degrees Celsius, with daytime mercury levels touching between 32 and 33 degrees Celsius.
Following the de-escalation of Cyclone Murasu, severe weather threats have cleared for Hyderabad on November 5. The city is anticipated to witness generally overcast conditions alongside the probability of localized rainfall, thunderstorm activity, or brief dust storms at one or two places. Temperature readings in Hyderabad are expected to settle between 23 degrees Celsius at the lower end and 33 degrees Celsius at the peak.
Monsoon Activity and Rainfall Data Across Kerala
Thiruvananthapuram and its neighbouring belts are slated to encounter partly cloudy conditions accompanied by several intervals of rain or thundershowers, with minimum temperatures stabilizing near 25 degrees Celsius. Overall, the northeast monsoon has exhibited subdued strength over Kerala, though isolated precipitation was reported across the mainland and the Lakshadweep archipelago.
Rainfall measurements highlight that Ranni AWS in Pathanamthitta district recorded the highest accumulation at 5 cm. Additional precipitation data recorded 4 cm each at Myladumpara and Peerumedu in Idukki district, and 3 cm at Kuppady in Wayanad district. Totals of 2 cm each were logged at Konni and Kurudamannil in Pathanamthitta, Kanjirappally and Kumarakom in Kottayam, Aluva and Aluva AWS in Ernakulam, Munakkal AWS in Thrissur, and Kuppadi AWS in Wayanad. Stations registering 1 cm of rain included Thiruvananthapuram Airport, Kottayam, Ambalavayal in Wayanad, Thattathumala AWS in Thiruvananthapuram, Paripalli AWS in Kollam, Vellathooval AWS and Meencut AWS in Idukki, Chemberi AWS in Kannur, and Panathur AWS in Kasargod.
Pollution Levels and Air Quality Metrics
The combination of atmospheric moisture and air currents has maintained low pollutant concentrations across these five major hubs. Live tracking by the Central Pollution Control Board shows Bengaluru recording a satisfactory Air Quality Index (AQI) of 63. Within the city, monitoring points showed values of 47 at Bapuji Nagar, 59 at Hebbal, 71 at Hombegowda Nagar, 59 at Jayanagar 5th Block, and 52 at Silk Board, all falling comfortably inside the satisfactory category.
Chennai logged a satisfactory AQI score of 98. Air purity was substantially higher in Thiruvananthapuram, which outpaced both Chennai and Bengaluru with an index of 46, qualifying for the clean and good classification. Amaravati posted the cleanest air among all monitored cities with a pristine AQI of 18, while Hyderabad sustained a satisfactory reading of 54.
