Political tension has escalated sharply over allegations of donation and offering theft at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has launched a scathing attack on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party on social media platform X, questioning the transparency and intentions of the party regarding temple funds.
Akhilesh Yadav Targets BJP Over Temple Funds
In a satirical post shared on X, Akhilesh Yadav questioned where those who steal offerings and donations can be found, answering that they are located in the BJP office. He further alleged that the accounts for this theft are maintained in unregistered registers. Targeting both the ruling party and Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai, the Samajwadi Party leader asserted that citizens will no longer give either donations or votes to the party.
SIT Investigation and Custody Remand of Three Accused
The controversy intensified after claims surfaced regarding unissued receipts and missing records for temple offerings in Ayodhya. Following the registration of an FIR, police conducted raids and arrested several suspects. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe the matter, which has submitted its detailed investigation report. Police subsequently sought a seven-day custody remand for three key accused to unravel the full network behind the alleged theft and missing receipts.
Trust Discloses Total Donation Figure of ₹3,264 Crore
Amid growing nationwide debate over accountability and financial transparency in temple administration, the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust publicly disclosed its official accounts. According to the numbers released by the Trust, a total of ₹3,264 crore in donations has been received for the Ram Mandir. Trust representatives emphasized that all financial contributions are tracked transparently and maintained under official records.
Protests at Parliament and Political Fallout
The Samajwadi Party escalated its agitation beyond social media, carrying the protest to the national level. Party lawmakers staged a demonstration within the Parliament complex, symbolically collecting donations to protest against the alleged theft of temple offerings. Opposition leaders maintained that any financial irregularity involving devotee contributions touches upon public faith and demands stringent law enforcement action.
Public Reaction
The comments by Akhilesh Yadav generated intense engagement and divided opinions across social media. While several users demanded complete financial audits and strict action against any negligence in managing temple funds, critics accused the opposition of playing political games and recalled past historical controversies involving the party.
