Georgia's Republican gubernatorial race has taken a decisive turn as billionaire healthcare executive Rick Jackson secured the GOP nomination, prompting a major endorsement and a call for party unity from Donald Trump ahead of the November general election. Jackson, who emerged victorious from a highly competitive and expensive primary battle, is now set to face Democratic nominee Keisha Lance Bottoms in the autumn showdown.
A Costly Primary Victory in Georgia
Jackson's path to the nomination was marked by an intense intra-party struggle, most notably against Burt Jones, a prominent candidate who had received the backing of Donald Trump during the primary campaign. The race also saw Georgia Governor Brian Kemp endorsing Jones, adding further weight to the contest. Despite these high-profile endorsements for his opponent, Jackson successfully positioned himself to win the runoff. In a separate primary contest, Trump-endorsed Representative Mike Collins secured his runoff victory to challenge Democratic Senator Jon Ossoff.
Donald Trump Declares Full Support
Following the primary results, Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, to offer his complete backing to the billionaire businessman. In his statement, Trump praised Jackson for running a highly successful campaign centered on a strong alignment with his political movement. Trump stated, "Rick Jackson has my Complete and Total Endorsement to be the next Governor of Georgia." The endorsement marks a consolidation of support behind Jackson, whose campaign had previously drawn praise from Donald Trump Jr., who had described Jackson as a good man before clarifying that his comments did not constitute an official endorsement.
Aligning on Key Conservative Policies
In his endorsement, Trump highlighted several key policy areas where he expects Jackson to deliver as governor. These goals include stimulating economic growth, slashing taxes and regulations, promoting domestic manufacturing, and establishing American energy dominance. Trump also emphasized Jackson's commitment to securing the southern border, maintaining law and order, protecting election integrity, and safeguarding the Second Amendment. Trump urged all Republicans to unite behind Jackson to ensure a victory in November, stating that the businessman will work closely with him to implement America First policies.
