About Govind Swarup
Govind Swarup was a well known radio astronomy scientist who is credited with laying the foundation of the field in India. He was born on 23 March 1929 in Thakurdwara, Uttar Pradesh. He is said to have played a key role in setting up the world's largest radio telescope, an achievement that Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself has praised in the past. His name has also featured, around Science Day, among the ten Indian scientists credited with strengthening the country's scientific image across the world.
