The Union Cabinet has given its approval to the Kanpur-Kabrai 4-lane Greenfield Highway, a significant infrastructure push aimed at establishing high-speed road connectivity between the Awadh and Bundelkhand regions of Uttar Pradesh. Amit Shah shared the details of the Cabinet decision on social media platform X.
What the Project Involves
The approved corridor is a greenfield project, meaning it will be developed on a brand-new alignment rather than widening or upgrading any existing road. This allows the highway to be built to modern design standards suited for high-speed travel. Once operational, the route will considerably reduce journey times for passengers and freight vehicles travelling between the two regions, providing direct relief to daily commuters, traders, and logistics operators across both Awadh and Bundelkhand.
A Driver of Economic Growth
Amit Shah described the project as an engine of economic development for Uttar Pradesh. Faster road connectivity between the two regions is expected to accelerate industrial activity, stimulate trade, attract investment, and create fresh employment opportunities. Bundelkhand, which has historically had limited access to major commercial centres, stands to gain significantly from being better connected to markets and businesses in the Awadh belt. Farmers, small traders, and entrepreneurs across both regions should benefit as the movement of goods and people becomes quicker and more efficient.
