According to news reports, the tragedy occurred in the Taratala area of Kolkata, where an under-construction warehouse near Brace Bridge gave way. Reports indicate that several people died in the collapse, while around 20 were pulled out safely from the rubble. Some people are feared to still be trapped, and rescue operations continued at the site.
News reports say Suvendu Adhikari reached the spot and voiced his grief over the incident. The Chief Minister, meanwhile, said she would visit the location and decided to suspend certain construction works tied to older projects in the city until July 31.
