What the Rath Yatra represents
The Rath Yatra is held every year, with Lord Jagannath, his elder brother Balabhadra and sister Subhadra taken out in grandly decorated chariots. Within the Sanatan tradition, the festival is regarded as a symbol of deep faith, social harmony and public welfare. Lakhs of devotees gather on the occasion to pull the chariots and take darshan of the deities.

In his post, Yogi Adityanath wrote that the Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath, a sacred symbol of Sanatan culture's deep faith, social harmony and public welfare, had begun, and he extended heartfelt greetings and good wishes to all devotees on the occasion. He further wrote that he hoped the blessings of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Mata Subhadra would continue to remain upon the entire universe, that is, upon all living and non-living beings.
