Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted the central government's financial allocations to the Union Territory of Puducherry, sharing figures comparing historical and current assistance. He stated that Puducherry was granted ₹3,500 crore in total between 1950 and 2014, whereas the Modi administration has increased this funding fourfold to reach ₹13,762 crore.
Growth in Central Financial Allocations
In a post published on social media platform X, Home Minister Amit Shah underlined the contrast in financial distribution across different eras. While total funds released to the Union Territory over 64 years prior to 2014 stood at ₹3,500 crore, the allocation under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's tenure was raised to ₹13,762 crore to drive regional infrastructure and developmental programs.
Central Support and Governance Structure
Addressing administrative needs, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy remarked that Puducherry requires continuous support from the Union Government to achieve development until full statehood is granted. The significant increase in funding provides resources necessary for sustaining financial governance and municipal services in the region.
Welfare Promises and Community Initiatives
The state administration and political leadership have introduced various public welfare initiatives. The Puducherry government previously arranged five complimentary grocery items for all ration card holders as a Deepavali gift. Furthermore, election manifestos from the BJP pledged benefits including two free LPG cylinders for households and e-scooters for female students.
Expansion of Security Forces
To enhance public safety and recruitment, measures were initiated to reinforce security forces across the region. These include recruiting over 500 new home guards to strengthen the local police force, along with expanding avenues for women to enter the fire services.
