The political landscape in Punjab has once again heated up over the issue of the illicit drug trade and related financial irregularities. Tensions have escalated as leaders from various political platforms exchange sharp accusations regarding accountability and governance. In this context, Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal took to the social media platform X to post a scathing critique, directly questioning the central leadership and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Sharp questions on alliances and drug networks
In his social media post, Arvind Kejriwal alleged that entities who allegedly traded drugs worth 736 crore rupees in Punjab and deposited those funds into their bank accounts are now being accommodated through political alliances. He raised concerns over whether such maneuvers are intended to push Punjab back into the grip of substance abuse. Questioning the transit routes, he asked whether narcotics would now be funneled through Gujarat to be sold in Punjab, asserting that the people of the state will never allow this to happen under any circumstances.
A massive chargesheet and ongoing investigations
This political friction unfolds against the backdrop of intensive legal action by state authorities against Bikram Singh Majithia. The government has filed a massive chargesheet running into 40,000 pages, detailing suspicious financial transactions amounting to 736 crore rupees linked to drug money. Supporters and leaders, including Manish Sinha, have backed the administration's crackdown, describing the comprehensive documentation as undeniable proof of involvement in activities that jeopardized the youth of the state.
About Gujarat
The discussions have also brought geographical transit points like Gujarat into focus. Gujarat is a state located in western India, sharing its northwestern boundary as an international border with Pakistan. Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh lie to its north and northeast respectively, while Maharashtra is situated to its south, and the Arabian Sea forms its western and southern boundaries. Its capital is Gandhinagar, located near the major commercial hub of Ahmedabad, encompassing a total area of 1,96,024 square kilometers.
Public reaction
The developments have elicited a diverse range of responses and debates among the general public and social media users. While many citizens have expressed strong support for stringent legal action against the drug mafia, others have raised questions referencing past political controversies and accountability.
