South cinema prominent actor Keerthy Suresh frequently stays in the headlines for both her cinematic projects and her personal life. Keerthy will soon share screen space with Rajkummar Rao in Raftaar. In addition to this, she has been drawing attention for her Netflix web series Akka, which features Radhika Apte in a lead role alongside her. The plot of the series weaves between eight-hundred-year-old history and the nineteen-eighties, centering around a fictional city ruled entirely by women. Recently, the actor spoke at length about her seventeen-year bond with her husband Antony Thattil.
A Long Journey That Started in Teenage Years
During an interaction, the actor revealed that after dating for roughly fifteen years, she and Antony tied the knot in 2024. However, their journey was far from straightforward. Their relationship began when Keerthy was just seventeen years old, and the romance was initially uncovered by her mother through a personal diary. Keerthy noted that once her mother read the pages detailing her love story with Antony, she stopped writing diaries altogether. For years, they had to keep their relationship under wraps because winning family approval for marriage proved extremely difficult.
Overcoming Interfaith Challenges
Keerthy shared that she started dating Antony right after completing her twelfth-grade education. Because Antony is Christian and she comes from a Hindu family, their respective households strongly opposed the match. The pair first met in December 2009 and began dating in January 2010 before finally getting married in 2024. Convincing their families took considerable time and patience, especially since Antony knew her long before she became an actor, allowing them essentially to grow up together.
The Diary Incident and Family Opposition
Recalling the diary incident, Keerthy explained that while she was in college, her mother stumbled upon her private thoughts and poems, stating that as a mother she had every right to read it. Although she loved writing, she completely abandoned the habit afterward and suspects her mother might have burned the diary. Despite the initial hurdles posed by family objections and religious differences, the couple successfully navigated the obstacles to build a lasting future together.
