After undergoing 18 exhausting rounds of chemotherapy, he defeated the disease completely and enjoyed a vibrant life for another decade.
However, when his father reached the age of 73, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown, the cancer returned. He was receiving treatment in Singapore, where medical professionals advised another course of chemotherapy. Unwilling to endure more physical agony at that stage of his life, his father reached out to Ram over the phone. He clearly stated that he did not want to suffer through painful treatments again and wished to depart in peace without further medical intervention.
Holding Hands in the ICU to Keep a Promise
In an emotional recount, Ram revealed that his father was terrified of being alone during his final moments. He asked Ram to make a firm promise not to share this decision with anyone else in the family. His father requested that Ram remain by his bedside in the ICU, hold his hand, and support him as he passed away peacefully. Ram kept his word, holding his father's hand inside the ICU until his final breath.
When his mother and sister learned about his role in honoring their father's wish, they were devastated and deeply upset with Ram.
