A fresh clash inside the Lock Upp 2 house has turned into one of the most talked-about moments of the season, after Varun Yadav, who goes by the name Laila inside the show, got into a sharp argument with fellow contestant Pamela Serena during a task. Pamela accused Laila and his close friend Aarush Bhola of passing objectionable comments about women while the task was underway. Laila pushed back, insisting that neither he nor Aarush had insulted anyone. What began as a heated in-house disagreement quickly snowballed into a full-blown controversy, and it eventually landed on the show's Judgment Day segment, where the host and a guest question contestants over their conduct through the week. There, host Farah Khan and guest Huma Qureshi took Laila to task over remarks directed at Pamela's friend, Laily Mirza.
Farah Khan and Huma Qureshi Confront Laila
During the Judgment Day face-off, Farah asked Laila, "Varun, the first thing Aarush said the moment he walked into the house... is that the kind of word you use?" Laila tried to explain the remark away, saying, "We weren't thinking straight at that moment." Huma cut in almost immediately, refusing to accept the excuse. She pointed out that the language Laila was defending wasn't genuine Delhi slang, adding that she herself was from Delhi and knew exactly how people from the city actually spoke. Still unconvinced, Huma told Laila bluntly, "So broaden your thinking a bit, my friend." Her sharp tone visibly changed the mood on the set.
Sexist Remark Costs Laila Dearly, He Breaks Down
The dressing-down from Huma and Farah clearly got to Laila, and within moments of the exchange, he got up from his seat in tears and walked off the set. The roots of the entire controversy went back to an accusation Pamela had made earlier, that Laila was being "sexist" and singling out women during the game. She further alleged that Aarush had used an insulting phrase, "chu chu chu," while talking about her friend Laily Mirza. Defending both himself and Aarush, Laila argued that the words in question were never meant to hurt or demean anyone, and that they were simply part of the casual, everyday way the two of them spoke to each other. That explanation, however, did little to calm the situation once it reached the Judgment Day stage, and Laila ended up visibly emotional in front of the cameras.
Pamela Serena Lets Slip Laila's Secret
In the middle of the heated back-and-forth, Pamela chose to bring up a far more personal detail about Laila, revealing that he had once sold newspapers to help support his family during a period of financial crisis. Instead of denying the claim, Laila decided to open up about that chapter of his life in front of everyone. He said his family had run into serious money trouble at the time, which pushed him to start selling newspapers early each morning so he could arrange enough money for household expenses, milk and rations. He added that his father, too, had faced financial difficulty around then and suffered a heart attack, leaving Laila to hold the household together largely on his own.
How Laila Kept His Home Running by Selling Newspapers
Laila went on to reveal that selling newspapers was not the only thing he did to get his family through that difficult stretch; he also took up tuitions and several other odd jobs alongside it just to keep things running. According to him, only a handful of people, mostly restricted to his immediate family and a few close friends, knew about this part of his past before it came out in front of the cameras on Judgment Day. The revelation turned into an emotional moment for viewers too, since almost nobody had known this side of Laila's personal life until then.
