On Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath travelled thousands of kilometres from Lucknow to Andhra Pradesh for an event whose ripple effects could shape the coming political battle back home. The results of the last Lok Sabha election forced the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party to rethink their approach in Uttar Pradesh, and the RSS has now quietly stepped in to lead "Mission 2027", the effort to hand Yogi Adityanath a third consecutive term as Chief Minister.
What brought the RSS to Nellore, and how does it tie into UP?
The city of Nellore in Andhra Pradesh hosted the silver jubilee celebrations of the Swarna Bharat Trust, marking 25 years since the organisation was founded by former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu. Over that period, the trust has worked in rural areas on education, healthcare, skill training and women's empowerment. The jubilee event drew several well-known thinkers and socio-political figures from across the country. The message that emerged from the stage was that the foundations of broader nationalism cannot be strong unless the rural economy, farmers, women and young people become self-reliant at the grassroots. That very idea is now shaping the RSS's strategy for Uttar Pradesh.
Rolling out the "Swarna Bharat model" village by village
The RSS and the BJP are extending service-oriented work across Uttar Pradesh's remote villages, modelled on the same Swarna Bharat approach seen in Andhra Pradesh. The reasoning is straightforward: caste-based consolidation in the 2024 general election cost the BJP heavily in rural and Dalit-dominated pockets. To close that gap, the RSS's service wing is now setting up skill centres, self-help groups and health camps in villages to deepen its own presence and influence.
The RSS's booth-level micro-strategy
To get Yogi Adityanath back into the Chief Minister's chair for a third term in 2027, the RSS has reactivated its familiar style of granular, booth-level oversight. Volunteers have been tasked with reinforcing a "nationalism versus casteism" narrative on the ground to prevent voters from splintering along caste lines. Workers in every district have been told in clear terms to steer clear of statements that could spark controversy, and instead to reach out directly to people who have already benefited from government schemes.
Coordination meetings in Lucknow, schemes delivered directly
Alongside this, a series of coordination meetings is already under way in Lucknow. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, both his deputy chief ministers and senior RSS office-bearers have been meeting repeatedly to hear out grievances from party workers and to discuss ways to improve how sitting MLAs function. At the same time, the Yogi government's self-employment schemes, including a tablet-distribution programme and the Rani Laxmi Bai Scooty Yojana, are being channelled straight to eligible young people and women through the RSS's social network.
Betting on development, governance and Sanatan identity
In recent public rallies, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already begun offering glimpses of this larger strategy. He has signalled that the 2027 election will be fought around development, good governance, strict law and order, and Sanatan identity. His government's focus remains on turning the state into a 1 trillion dollar economy and on using its expressway network to connect rural youth with employment opportunities.
Taken together, the 2027 Uttar Pradesh election is shaping up to be more than a straightforward contest between political parties. It looks increasingly like a larger clash between the RSS's social-service model and the opposition's reliance on caste consolidation. By borrowing lessons from apolitical service organisations such as the Swarna Bharat Trust, the RSS is trying to deepen its ideological and social roots in every village of Uttar Pradesh, so that Yogi Adityanath's path to a third term becomes that much smoother in 2027.
