Political friction in Maharashtra has escalated further as Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut raised grave concerns regarding deteriorating public safety, direct intimidation of Hindi film personalities, and local governance issues in Mumbai. During his remarks, the leader also laid down a direct challenge to top central leaders for an open discussion on the state of democracy and key national matters.
Challenge for an Open Debate on Democratic Institutions
Addressing the political climate, Sanjay Raut stated that the opposition remains entirely prepared to engage in substantive discussions on critical issues at any designated location. He pointed out that Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has repeatedly challenged the ruling establishment to debate major national concerns, the SIR issue, and democratic principles on any public platform chosen by them.
Raut questioned the conduct of the governing parties, observing an irony where those managing the federal and state governments are themselves taking to the streets under the pretext of safeguarding democratic systems. He noted that while common citizens and opposition parties appeal for the protection of constitutional institutions, ruling leaders selectively frame democracy campaigns around support for figures like Gyanesh Kumar.
Growing Intimidation Across the Entertainment Industry
Turning his focus toward law and order, the Shiv Sena (UBT) leader expressed deep distress over the atmosphere surrounding prominent entertainment figures. He highlighted that iconic actor Amitabh Bachchan is currently compelled to move under bulletproof security arrangements, describing such restrictions on a revered cultural figure as an embarrassing and deplorable reality for the country. According to Raut, a palpable sense of dread has overtaken the entire Hindi cinema community.
Raut specifically alleged that the primary individual responsible for this pervasive fear remains comfortably housed inside Sabarmati Jail under state security, while illicit operations continue unabated outside. He brought attention to a string of violent occurrences, noting that Amitabh Bachchan received explicit threats, gunfire was aimed at Tiger Shroff, and Baba Siddique was murdered. With major real estate builders and creative artists continually subjected to intimidation, Raut remarked that ensuring basic citizen protection should precede any high-minded political rhetoric about saving democracy.
Allegations Against Municipal Authorities Over Judicial Directives
Directing his criticism toward the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Sanjay Raut accused the ruling BJP leadership in the civic body of extreme administrative arrogance. He asserted that civic administrators are repeatedly defying clear court directives regarding environmental regulations. Raut referenced actor Dia Mirza, stating that her publicly expressed concerns regarding firecracker pollution had been validated by the court rather than found objectionable.
Emphasising that India is a secular nation where public health and environmental concerns must be respected, Raut argued that ruling party representatives in the BMC refuse to align with judicial rulings. He cautioned that persistent non-compliance with judicial pronouncements constitutes a serious contempt of court, warning that officials responsible for defying legal mandates could ultimately face imprisonment.
