The alleged police encounter in Shahpur Bitauli of Bhojpur district has turned into a major political controversy in Bihar. Breaking his silence on the matter, JDU National Executive President Sanjay Jha has openly questioned the police's version of the incident. Following the emergence of a viral social media video, which reportedly depicts the suspect surrendering before being shot, Jha stated that the footage raises profound doubts. He emphasized that under the NDA government, the rule of law is supreme, and no one, including police officers, is above it.
Viral Video Sparks Controversy Over Bhojpur Police Encounter
Speaking to journalists in Patna, the senior JDU leader acknowledged that the video circulating on social media creates significant suspicion. "The video we have seen definitely raises serious doubts," Jha stated. While the state government acted swiftly by suspending four police officers involved in the operation, Jha asserted that mere suspension is insufficient given the gravity of the allegations. He urged that the entire sequence of events be thoroughly investigated to bring the truth to light.
No Mercy for Criminals in Uniform, Says Sanjay Jha
Addressing the opposition's allegations that the encounter was a cold-blooded murder by the police, Jha maintained a tough stance. He reiterated that the NDA administration, running under the leadership of Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, operates on the principle of absolute rule of law. Jha clarified that when the government promises to eliminate crime, the rule applies equally to those wearing police uniforms. If law protectors turn into violators and shoot at innocent individuals, they must face the exact same harsh legal consequences as any ordinary criminal.
Demand for a High-Level and Time-Bound Investigation
The controversy stems from the encounter of Bharat Tiwari in Shahpur Bitauli, Bhojpur. A viral video from the scene suggests that the individual had already discarded his weapon and surrendered to the police before shots were fired. In light of these developments, Jha has requested the Home Department and the Samrat Choudhary government to form a special investigation team led by a senior police officer. He added that the probe must be bound by a strict timeframe to ensure a transparent, fair, and pressure-free investigation.
