During a solemn event organized to observe Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed current political developments while criticizing the opposition leadership. He raised severe objections to the language used by the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, when referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the public expects dignified behavior from an individual occupying a key constitutional office. He emphasized that the 140 crore citizens of India are closely observing the statements, cultural values, and mindset displayed by Congress leaders.
Dignity of the Prime Minister's Office and Conduct of Opposition Leadership
Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami noted that the aggressive and disrespectful tone frequently adopted by the Leader of the Opposition reflects growing frustration and political desperation. He underscored that the Prime Minister does not represent a single political entity but serves as the representative of all 140 crore citizens of the nation. Consequently, the office commands immense respect and constitutional dignity. In any mature democratic setup, employing objectionable language against the head of government cannot be condoned.
Highlighting traditional Indian cultural norms, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami remarked, 'The position of the Leader of the Opposition is highly respected and carries immense responsibility.' He elaborated that anyone holding such a constitutional role should align their public speech with the country's ethical values and heritage. Respecting elders and addressing leaders with due regard has always been an integral part of Indian traditions. He alleged that opposition leaders appear unfamiliar with both Indian cultural etiquette and the reverence attached to the highest executive office, leading them to engage in constant controversy.
The Chief Minister further observed that when a political party exhausts solid policy proposals, lacks clean intentions, and runs out of genuine public issues, it inevitably resorts to foul language and personal attacks. Such rhetoric typically escalates when political defeat becomes obvious. He cautioned that citizens take note not only of public declarations but also of the underlying values driving them. He asserted that persistent arrogance and low-level politics are the exact reasons why voters continue to reject the opposition.
Preserving Partition History and Honoring the August 14 Commemoration
Reflecting on the historical significance of Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative. He stated that for several decades following independence, the Congress government deliberately concealed the painful history of Partition, the displacement of millions, and the tragic deaths of innocent people in order to maintain political power. As a result, subsequent generations remained disconnected from the harsh realities of that era.
He commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the historic step of designating August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day. The primary objective of commemorating this date annually is to educate future generations about the immense suffering and consequences of Partition, thereby strengthening national consciousness regarding unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He also shared his perspective on social platform X while paying tributes to those affected.
Key National Decisions Strengthening Integration and Social Equality
Elaborating on national governance, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami detailed several major policy decisions undertaken by the central government to foster national integration. He cited the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the abolition of Triple Talaq to protect women's rights, and the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to grant refuge to persecuted minorities as decisive steps toward national unity.
He further pointed out that statutory amendments to laws governing Wakf properties and delivering long-awaited justice to victims of the 1984 Sikh riots demonstrate a steadfast commitment to the vision of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'. The Chief Minister stressed that present-day India takes pride in its civilizational heritage while remaining fully equipped to protect the rights and security of its citizens across all borders. These points were also highlighted in a statement published on X.
The Haldwani Controversy, Ramlila Stage, and Remarks on Mallikarjun Kharge
Turning his focus to state matters, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami addressed the controversy surrounding a recent rally in Haldwani. He accused the opposition of manufacturing a artificial controversy to play a 'Dalit card' for political gains, calling such tactics deeply shameful. He clarified that no caste-based slogans were raised at the location; only certain religious chants took place, after which voluntary social organizations intervened. He expressed concern that sacred cultural platforms like Ramlila were being politicized for partisan interests.
In the same context, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami directed remarks toward Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. He acknowledged that Mallikarjun Kharge is a veteran leader who has often mentioned his past experience working alongside former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior leader LK Advani. Given such extensive stature and experience, engaging in divisive tactics does not suit his political position. He asserted that creating social rifts merely to win elections is unacceptable in modern governance.
Governance Grounded in Ambedkar's Vision Versus Electoral Politics
Reaffirming his government's resolve, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami emphasized that any attempts to disturb the social harmony and peaceful environment of Devbhoomi Uttarakhand would fail. He criticized the opposition for adhering to an outdated 'divide and rule' strategy. He claimed that the opposition's concern for Dalit welfare emerges strictly during election cycles solely to secure vote banks.
In contrast, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami asserted that the current administration works in alignment with the egalitarian principles championed by Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar. The government remains dedicated to empowering marginalized, underprivileged, and exploited sections of society by ensuring their constitutional rights, restoring their social dignity, and making them self-reliant. The Chief Minister reiterated these governance priorities through a message shared on X regarding state development.
