A controversy has erupted surrounding a dinner party organized by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) in New Delhi following the conclusion of a month-long movement. After a video of the event circulated online, questions regarding financial transparency were raised by political figures, prompting statements from the hotel management, a parliamentarian, and a party spokesperson.
Hotel Manager Outlines Event Booking and Arrangements
Providing details about the gathering, the manager of the hotel where the dinner took place stated that the hotel owner called one day before the event. According to the manager, the owner directed the staff to prepare for approximately 150 to 200 guests. The manager clarified that the hotel administration had no prior information regarding who would be attending the function.
Regarding the timeline of the event, the manager noted that guests began arriving after around 6:15 PM. Initially, the hotel staff was unable to identify any of the attendees. It was only later that they learned several leaders and workers belonging to the Cockroach Janta Party were present. The manager estimated the total attendance at around 200 people, describing the gathering as a standard dinner party where regular food was served. The management maintained that their involvement was strictly limited to fulfilling the booking terms, and they had no prior awareness of any political background associated with the event. The hotel management declined to comment further beyond these details.
Funding and Expense Objections Raised by BJP MP
Senior advocate and BJP Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Jethmalani shared the viral video, asserting that CJP leaders were seen celebrating inside the hotel premises. Raising concerns over the financial aspects of the campaign, he questioned who funded the expenses incurred for travel, food, lodging, and logistics during the month-long demonstration. Mahesh Jethmalani demanded public transparency and answers concerning the funding sources behind the movement.
CJP Spokesperson Saurabh Das Responds to Allegations
In response to the allegations, CJP spokesperson Saurabh Das defended the gathering, stating that the video was being presented out of context. He explained that the event was neither a secret gathering nor a lavish celebration, but rather a simple dinner arranged for the participants after the demonstration concluded.
Das mentioned that following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, the primary demands of the movement were addressed, leading workers to share a meal together. He emphasized that a simple dinner does not cast doubt on the financial integrity of the movement. He added that anyone harboring suspicions about funding should present concrete evidence rather than drawing conclusions based solely on a video clip.
