Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, launched a sharp attack against the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh during a press conference. He alleged that members of the Dalit community continue to face systemic discrimination at every step in Indian society. Highlighting the ongoing ideological clash in the nation, he stated that one side represents Dr. B.R. Ambedkar's Constitution while the other represents the ideology of the RSS and the BJP.
Demand for Legal Action Over Uttarakhand Purification Incident
During the press conference, Rahul Gandhi raised a contentious incident from Uttarakhand, where a venue was reportedly subjected to purification rituals following a public gathering addressed by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Terming the incident a clear reflection of untouchability and social prejudice, he demanded that an FIR be immediately lodged under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against those responsible.
Two Ideologies and Accusations of Social Discrimination
Accusing the ruling party of encouraging practices akin to untouchability, Rahul Gandhi emphasized that the country is split between two conflicting visions. He argued that while the Constitution guarantees equality and justice for all citizens, the opposing political ideology perpetuates marginalization. He reiterated the necessity of safeguarding Dalit rights and constitutional guarantees against social bias.
