S Jaishankar Arrives in Moscow for High-Level Talks with Vladimir Putin

India's External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has arrived in the Russian capital of Moscow to begin a two-day official diplomatic tour. On Monday, the minister held a prominent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, following which both leaders participated in delegation-level discussions covering bilateral trade, long-term investments, and various mutual cooperation areas.

Conveying Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Special Message

During the formal interaction with Vladimir Putin, S Jaishankar conveyed warm greetings on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting that he carried a personal message to be handed directly to the Russian leader. Reviewing the outcomes of their recent intergovernmental commission meetings, the minister highlighted that economic ties, energy partnerships, fertilizer supplies, nuclear cooperation, and other sectors have achieved substantial progress, reflecting a significant expansion in bilateral collaboration.

Focus on Upcoming SCO and BRICS Summits

The diplomatic talks also addressed major upcoming multilateral events, with S Jaishankar stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi looks forward to meeting the Russian leader at the SCO summit and subsequently welcoming him to India for the BRICS summit. New Delhi is scheduled to host the BRICS summit from September 12 to 13 later this year, where the Russian president is expected to be in attendance.

Meetings with Denis Manturov and Sergey Lavrov

As part of his ongoing itinerary in Moscow, S Jaishankar is set to co-chair the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical, and Cultural Cooperation alongside Russia's First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. Additionally, the external affairs minister will hold formal consultations with his Russian counterpart, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, to deliberate on pressing regional developments and global geopolitical issues.
