Mayor Takes the Matter to the Solicitor General
The escalation came from Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav, who treated the issue as serious enough to write directly to Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. Bhargav argues that Singh's statement undermines the dignity of the judiciary, and on that basis he has called for action against the former chief minister under the Contempt of Court Act, 1971.
Evidence Attached to the Letter
Bhargav did not stop at making the allegation. Along with the letter, he sent a recording of the statement, a copy of it, and other supporting documents to give the complaint a firm footing. He stressed that the judiciary is a vital pillar of democracy, and that any objectionable comment directed at it can shake public faith in the institution. The mayor expressed hope that the matter would be examined and that a proper decision would follow, in line with constitutional and legal procedure.

Amid all this, the BJP has seized the opening to corner the Congress, with party leaders insisting that those active in public life must exercise restraint in what they say. The Congress, meanwhile, has so far offered no official response to the controversy despite the mounting noise around it.
