Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced a major welfare measure for elected representatives in the state Legislative Assembly. Under the new decision, the state government will provide official vehicles to all 234 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to facilitate uninterrupted travel across their respective constituencies and enhance public service delivery.
Financial Breakdown and Maintenance Allowances
As part of the approved scheme, each MLA will receive a monthly allowance of ₹75,000 to cover vehicle maintenance costs and the salary of a driver. Additionally, an extra allowance of ₹25,000 per month will be allocated for hiring a personal assistant, bringing the total monthly financial support to ₹1,00,000 per legislator. Provisions have also been made to extend a ₹25 lakh health coverage package to all 234 MLAs in the state.
Objective Behind the Assembly Announcement
Speaking on the floor of the Assembly, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay emphasized that elected representatives face constant mobility requirements to inspect local projects and address public grievances. Providing government vehicles and operational funds aims to remove financial and logistical hurdles, enabling MLAs to execute their constituent responsibilities with greater efficiency and dedication.
