Notably, former Chief Minister and senior party figure Charanjit Singh Channi remained absent from this high-level gathering. According to insiders, the party leadership is preparing to take major decisions over the next few days to ensure complete organizational harmony before stepping into the electoral arena for the upcoming assembly elections.
Preparations Ahead of Rahul Gandhi Anticipated Visit
According to sources within the party, Rahul Gandhi is likely to undertake a bus Yatra in Punjab either by the end of this month or during the upcoming month. Before this major outreach program commences, the leadership is keen to put a complete halt to ongoing internal friction. Although the detailed itinerary and official schedule for the Yatra are yet to be finalized, serious consideration is being given to launching the campaign from Amritsar, a city of immense religious and cultural significance. The objective is to present a united front to the public and boost grassroots morale before the campaign kicks off.
Underlying Tensions and Leadership Speculations
Political observers note that Charanjit Singh Channi has been reportedly unhappy over the past few months due to the absence of a leadership shuffle within the state committee. Rumors have also circulated that if the high command eventually decides to alter the state presidency, the responsibility could be handed over to Partap Singh Bajwa. However, Bhupesh Baghel had previously clarified on multiple occasions that no immediate change at the helm of the state unit was on the cards, dismissing the idea of frequent leadership swaps. Elections to the Punjab legislative assembly are scheduled to take place early next year, adding urgency to these internal deliberations.

Recently, a formal meeting took place in Delhi between party general secretary K.C. Venugopal and Bhupesh Baghel to assess the ground situation. Following this interaction, Baghel submitted his detailed assessment report to the central office. Discussions have continuously focused on finding viable pathways to pacify disgruntled factions and bridge internal divides, ensuring that all key stakeholders are brought on board before the election campaign fully takes off.
