A tragic and volatile turn of events has unfolded in Punjab's industrial hub of Ludhiana, where a young woman ended her life shortly after an armed ambush on her partner's vehicle. Following the violent attack involving intensive gunfire on an SUV, 23-year-old Raina Dheer ingested a toxic substance. She was immediately rushed to the Christian Medical College (CMC) Hospital in a critical state, where she succumbed during medical treatment. The fatality has severely intensified tensions between both sides, with the boyfriend claiming a premeditated assassination attempt orchestrated by her family, while the deceased girl's relatives allege prolonged stalking, harassment, and misconduct.
Late-Night Birthday Ambush and Heavy Gunfire on Vehicle
According to available details, the initial confrontation took place in the Harcharan Nagar locality situated along the Shingar Cinema Road in Ludhiana. The young man, identified as Divyanshu Bagga, stated that his girlfriend Raina had summoned him to her street at around 12:30 AM on November 2 under the pretext of cutting a cake for his birthday. Divyanshu claimed that as soon as he arrived in his Thar, a group of waiting attackers surrounded the vehicle from all directions.
The attackers allegedly initiated the assault by pelting bricks and stones at the SUV before opening fire, discharging approximately 15 to 20 rounds of ammunition. Although one of the vehicle's tires burst during the intense barrage of bullets, Divyanshu managed to maneuver the vehicle out of the ambush site and escaped with his life. He subsequently accused Raina's brother, Rohan Dheer, and her mother, Seema Rani, of orchestrating the entire coordinated shooting.
Family Rebuttal Alleges Persistent Stalking and Harassment
In response, Raina's grieving family has completely refuted Divyanshu's narrative, labeling his allegations entirely baseless. Countering his claims, the deceased woman's brother Rohan Dheer asserted that Divyanshu had been persistently stalking, harassing, and behaving inappropriately with his sister in their street for nearly three months. The family maintained that they had repeatedly warned him against troubling the young woman, but the unwanted advances allegedly continued unabated.
Rohan further claimed that the family possesses concrete evidence, including objectionable digital messages and recordings spanning the past two months, to substantiate their claims of prolonged harassment. Following the news of Raina's demise at the medical facility, agitated relatives and supporters staged a road blockade at the CMC Hospital Chowk, halting traffic while demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and stringent police intervention.
Police Launch Multi-Angle Probe and Scan Surveillance Footage
Recognizing the gravity of the incident, personnel from the Division Number 3 police station have commenced a detailed probe into the matter. Sub-Inspector (SI) Harpal Singh confirmed that the formal statements of the victim's family members are currently being recorded. Legal procedures to register the case are underway in accordance with the testimonies provided.
Investigators are actively reviewing surveillance footage gathered from various CCTV cameras installed along the route and in the vicinity of the crime scene to verify the sequence of the shooting and identify all individuals present during the late-night incident. Additionally, authorities are awaiting the formal post-mortem examination report. Police officials reiterated that only a comprehensive inquiry covering every dimension will establish the actual motive and determine the precise involvement of each party.
