A horrifying incident of domestic violence unfolded in Punjab's Mansa district after an active-duty policeman turned his weapon on his family before shooting himself. The bloodshed resulted in the untimely death of the police personnel and his young son, while his spouse and second son remain under intensive medical care after sustaining severe bullet wounds. The tragedy has left the local neighborhood in deep shock and disbelief.
Fatal Injuries Claim Two Lives at the Hospital
The violent outburst caused immediate panic as gunshots echoed inside the residential quarter. Neighbors rushed to the scene and transported all four wounded individuals to the Mansa Civil Hospital. Despite medical interventions, constable Gurwinder Singh and his son Jot succumbed to fatal firearm wounds during treatment. Meanwhile, Gurwinder's wife Harpreet Kaur and their other son Dilshan remained in highly critical condition, prompting the hospital administration to transfer them to a higher healthcare facility for emergency surgical care.
Gunman Was Assigned to Mansa Deputy Commissioner
Official records indicate that Gurwinder Singh was actively deployed as a security gunman for the Deputy Commissioner of Mansa. He had been away from active duties on sanctioned leave for the past two days before the altercation erupted. It remains unclear what specific escalation drove him to take such an extreme step against his own household members while on leave.
Investigation Points to Household Dispute
Addressing the development, Mansa Senior Superintendent of Police Vaibhav Chaudhary stated that the lethal shootout stemmed from an internal domestic disagreement. The official confirmed that the Punjab Police personnel targeted his own family members before shooting himself, resulting in two confirmed deaths. Law enforcement authorities have cordoned off the area and launched an extensive probe into the circumstances that provoked the incident.
