Ajmer police arrests main accused in Rs 14 lakh cyber fraud case

Ajmer police arrested the main accused, Sabre Alam, on a production warrant in a Rs 14 lakh cyber fraud case under Operation Mool Hunt. The gang used to open fake bank accounts using stolen documents.

Cyber crime operations in Ajmer have yielded a significant breakthrough as the Civil Line police station acting under the Operation Mool Hunt campaign made a major arrest. Police have taken Sabre Alam, identified as the primary accused in a cyber fraud case involving approximately Rs 14 lakh, into custody on a production warrant. The suspect is currently being interrogated under police remand while authorities dive deeper into the cyber fraud network, examining bank accounts and tracking the flow of illicit funds.

Unraveling the Fake Account Network

The investigation stems from a cyber scam where a resident of Moradabad named Rohit was swindled out of about Rs 14 lakh. During the initial phases of the probe, the Civil Line police had previously arrested Mukesh and राकेश, residents of Ghughra. Interrogation of these two individuals revealed critical leads regarding the operation of the fraud syndicate. The inquiry established that Mukesh used to hand over the fraudulently obtained money directly to Sabre Alam, prompting law enforcement to pursue and eventually capture the main accused.

Modus Operandi Involving Deceptive Bank Accounts

Police findings indicate that the cyber crime ring lured unsuspecting victims through various pretexts to acquire their Aadhaar cards and other essential identification documents. These documents were subsequently used to open fraudulent bank accounts. Once victims fell into the trap and transferred money through online scams, the funds were routed directly into these newly opened accounts. The cash was promptly withdrawn or shuffled across multiple accounts in a calculated attempt to launder the proceeds of the crime and evade law enforcement tracking.

Expanding the Search for Accomplices

Following the apprehension of the primary suspect, investigators are pressing for details regarding the syndicate's operational methods and the identities of other conspirators. Police are carefully scrutinizing the trail of transactions to identify every single bank account that received the cheated money and the individuals responsible for withdrawing or forwarding the cash. Authorities expect that sustained questioning of the accused will uncover vital clues leading to more arrests and a clearer picture of the financial trail. The investigation remains active and further legal actions will follow based on new disclosures.

How can ordinary people protect their personal identity from such fraudsters who use stolen documents to open fake accounts?

Ravikash Gupta@ravikash·29m ago

Police claim the main mastermind is caught, but I seriously doubt a small local ring works alone. Arresting just a couple of guys won't stop a massive cyber fraud operation like this.

Arjun Mehta@arjun-mehta·29m ago

Ravikash, that part about Aadhaar cards being used to open fake accounts is scary; handing over documents to anyone is risky now.

Rohan Verma@rohan-verma·49m ago

The game of opening fake bank accounts using stolen Aadhaar details has become far too common. Unless banks tighten their KYC checks, these cyber syndicates will keep using innocent people to run their scams easily.

Karan Malhotra@karan-malhotra·49m ago

Rohan, banks actually do strict KYC checks already, the real issue is these masterminds who trap people looking for easy money.
