Traders operating within the jurisdiction of the Civil Lines police station in Ajmer are facing severe distress due to a continuous series of petty theft incidents plaguing the locality. Troubled by the recurring security lapses, a group of local shopkeepers visited the Civil Lines police station on Sunday to formally register their grievances and demand immediate police intervention. The store owners met directly with the station officer, submitted a formal memorandum, and strongly urged authorities to increase patrolling in the area while taking decisive steps to curb these criminal activities.
Rising thefts spark anxiety among local merchants
According to the shopkeepers, anti-social elements have been systematically targeting quiet or less-guarded shops over an extended period. Taking advantage of moments when stores are unattended or lacking immediate supervision, the culprits slip inside and make off with valuable goods such as mobile phones, chocolates, tobacco, cigarettes, and various other counter items. The merchants reported that such incidents have multiplied significantly over the past few days, generating an atmosphere of deep concern and insecurity throughout the local business community.
Suspicion falls on substance abusers
The shopkeepers expressed strong suspicion that certain individuals active in the area who suffer from drug addictions are behind these petty thefts. They pointed out that while the current thefts appear small in scale, failing to take timely action against such perpetrators could pave the way for much larger and more dangerous crimes in the future. Consequently, the merchants have requested the police to maintain strict surveillance over the movements of suspicious and substance-addicted youths operating within the neighborhood.
