Frustrated by decaying infrastructure, clogged sewerage, and severe waterlogging, residents of the Jhotwara assembly constituency in Jaipur staged a highly creative satirical demonstration to catch the attention of civic authorities. Highlighting the treacherous condition of local roads following recent rainfall, citizens dressed up in astronaut suits and waded into giant waterfilled craters in the middle of the street. Protesters sarcastically claimed that the roads have degraded to a point where they closely resemble the rugged surfaces of the Moon and Mars.
Astronaut Suits in Puddles and Space Landing Sarcasm
The unusual protest took place on Pratap Circle Road in the Gokulpura area, located within Wards 46 and 47 of Jhotwara. Over 100 local residents gathered at 10 AM and continued their peaceful demonstration for around two hours until 12 PM. During the protest, two local citizens donned full astronaut costumes and stood inside massive waterlogged potholes along the thoroughfare, drawing widespread attention from passersby.
Expressing deep frustration over administrative negligence, protester Devendra Pratap Singh offered a biting commentary. Devendra Pratap Singh said, "When billions of rupees are spent on space research, scientists should just come to Jhotwara." He added that navigating these monsoon-swallowed pits offers the exact experience of landing on lunar or Martian terrain without leaving the city.
Three Months of Unheard Appeals to Authorities and Leaders
Protesting residents emphasized that the infrastructural collapse is not a sudden issue but a persistent hardship they have endured for the past three months. Citizens alleged that they have repeatedly visited the offices of the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and the Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC), only to be met with complete administrative indifference while daily commutes remain hazardous.
The local community stated that they formally raised their grievances with Jhotwara MLA and Cabinet Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, as well as Jaipur Rural MP Rao Rajendra Singh. Complaints were also submitted to former ward councillors and civic officials. However, citizens were consistently dismissed with generic responses stating that the minister was too busy to address their concerns, forcing them to adopt this satirical route to make their voices heard.
Tenders Approved with Post-Monsoon Repairs Promised
The combination of broken road surfaces and stagnant rainwater has created severe safety risks for daily commuters, with frequent vehicular breakdowns and accidents reported along Pratap Circle Road. Residents pointed out that school children, elderly individuals, and pedestrians face constant danger while navigating the flooded streets.
Following the public outcry, information indicates that tenders for constructing new roads and upgrading the drainage system in the region have already been officially sanctioned. Authorities have assured that construction work will commence immediately once the ongoing monsoon season concludes, aiming to deliver long-term relief to the affected population.
