Police scored a big win on Wednesday morning in the murder case of moneylender Shobhalal Jain that had shaken the Bagor police station area of Rajasthan's Bhilwara district. The main accused, 36-year-old Roshan Gurjar, who had been on the run for weeks, was caught by police in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh. His accomplice, Narayan Lal Sargara, had already been arrested on August 1, and now the key conspirator too is behind bars.
The moneylender who was killed by the man he trusted
According to Bagor police station in-charge Bachhraj Chaudhary, 78-year-old Shobhalal Jain, a moneylender from Bawlas village, used to lend money on interest. Shobhalal, who had gone missing for a few days, was murdered brutally on July 26. What made the case shocking was that the killer was not a stranger but his own longtime trusted munim, Roshan Gurjar, who worked for him both as an accountant and as a driver. Roshan, along with his friend Narayan Lal, carried out the murder with the intention of grabbing Shobhalal's property worth crores of rupees and the Rs 70 lakh he had with him.
A pilgrimage to Sanwaliya Seth became the perfect cover
The police investigation found that on July 18, Shobhalal had gone on a religious trip to Sanwaliya Seth along with his munim Roshan. On the way back, the accused put their plan into action inside the car itself. Narayan held down Shobhalal's hands while Roshan pressed his mouth and strangled him. To make sure he could not survive, the accused also taped his mouth shut. After the murder, the two accused tied the body to a cement pole, threw it into a deserted well, and fled the spot.
A liquor party and a Rs 10 lakh bribe sealed the deal
Police said Roshan already knew that moneylender Shobhalal had Rs 70 lakh in cash with him. Grabbing such a large sum alone was not easy, so Roshan convinced his old friend Narayan Lal Sargara to join the murder plot by throwing him a liquor party. In return, he lured Narayan with the promise of Rs 10 lakh. After that, the plan to kill Shobhalal kept turning over in Narayan's mind until the two finally got their chance on July 18.
The accomplice who sells panipuri in Madhya Pradesh
The arrested accused, Narayan Lal Sargara, hails from Adarsipura village and runs a panipuri stall in Madhya Pradesh. He is said to be an old friend of munim Roshan Gurjar. After carrying out the murder and dumping the body in the well, Narayan too had fled his village, and police arrested him on August 1. Main conspirator Roshan Gurjar managed to evade police for a much longer time, but was finally arrested from Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday morning. Police are now questioning both accused to piece together the full sequence of events and are also examining documents related to Shobhalal's property.
