A high-voltage political demonstration has gripped Rajasthan as the Congress party launched an indefinite sit-in outside the Jaipur Police Commissionerate. The agitation centers on the demand for the formal registration of a First Information Report in the Ritu Barala case. Spearheaded by Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee chief Govind Singh Dotasra, numerous legislators and senior functionaries remained stationed at the venue through the entire night. Party leaders made their stand unequivocal, declaring that the demonstration will persist uninterrupted until police authorities officially file the case and initiate statutory proceedings.
Overnight Demonstration and Chanting as Mark of Protest
Protesting politicians and supporters braved the overnight hours directly outside the gates of the commissionerate building. Throughout the night, demonstrators engaged in devotional singing and Ramdhuni as an expression of peaceful dissent against official inaction. As dawn broke, participants maintained their presence, combining morning walks with continued chanting to signal their resolve. Leaders expressed deep frustration over the prolonged silence from high-ranking police officials, noting that despite an entire night spent on the pavement, the administration had failed to furnish any substantive response or commit to registering the complaint.
Top Leadership Mobilises in Frontline Display
The sit-in has drawn significant participation from prominent regional figures across the party framework. Alongside state unit chief Govind Singh Dotasra, legislators Rafiq Khan and Amin Kagzi joined former cabinet minister Pratap Singh Khachariyawas at the frontline of the protest. The gathering also saw active participation from Mahila Congress president Sarita Singh as well as National Students Union of India national president Vinod Jakhar. The complainant, Ritu Barala, remained seated at the protest location alongside legislator Indira Meena, illustrating widespread organizational backing for the legal grievance.
Ashok Gehlot Cancels Regional Tour to Join Movement
Underscoring the political weight of the standoff, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot canceled his planned visit to Jodhpur and traveled straight to Jaipur. Upon his arrival at the police commissionerate, he joined the sit-in to express solidarity with the complainant and party colleagues. Simultaneously, Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully departed from Alwar to join the demonstration in the capital city. The convergence of prominent state figures from different regions has heightened scrutiny on law enforcement authorities, transforming the local grievance into a major administrative showdown.
Allegations of Delay and Indifference by Police Authorities
Speaking on the handling of the dispute, Govind Singh Dotasra criticized senior police officers for procedural delay and evasion. He stated that officials had initially requested leaders to wait inside an office on the assurance that an update would follow shortly, yet no meaningful decision materialized even after several hours. Dotasra pointed out that despite the passage of an entire night, the Jaipur Police Commissionerate provided no definitive answers regarding the filing of the case. He reiterated that the leadership and party cadre will not vacate the premises until the demanded FIR is formally registered on record.
