In Bhilwara, as evening approaches, the craving for something crispy and flavorful to accompany tea tends to rise in every household. To satisfy this minor hunger, most people end up buying chips, namkeen, or other packaged snacks from the market. However, consuming processed market items on a regular basis can prove harmful to health and also puts an extra burden on the daily budget. Keeping all of this in mind, instead of relying on expensive market options, a delicious and wholesome snack can be prepared at home in very little time.

A Wonderful Snack Made From Green Peas

Asafoetida and cumin spiced green peas made from fresh green peas can prove to be an excellent option to pair with evening tea. The biggest specialty of this snack is that it does not require any rare ingredients or special preparations to make. This recipe utilizes green peas along with asafoetida, cumin, green chilies, ginger, and regular spices easily found in the kitchen. The tempering of asafoetida and cumin enhances the flavor and aroma of the peas, while chaat masala and dry mango powder give it a tangy flavor. This fried peas recipe is not only ideal for tea-time snacks but also serves as a great travel companion because it does not spoil easily for a long time.

Ready In Just 5 Minutes

Pooja Kumari Sankhala, a resident of Radha Krishna Colony in Bhilwara city, explained that it is often observed during tea time or in the evening that family members demand something spicy and chatpata to eat. To fulfill this demand, asafoetida and cumin fried masala peas are the best remedy. Furthermore, another special aspect of this snack is that it gets prepared within a mere 5 minutes. The process of making this delicious snack begins by boiling fresh green peas in hot water for 2 to 3 minutes and straining them. If frozen peas are being used, they can be directly utilized after a simple wash. Afterward, two tablespoons of oil or ghee are heated in a pan, and cumin and asafoetida are added to create a fragrant tempering.

Blending Spices And Serving Method

Once the tempering is ready, finely chopped green chilies and grated ginger are added to the pan and sautéed for about 30 seconds. Following this, the peas are added and cooked over medium heat for 3 to 4 minutes. When the moisture in the peas dries up and they become slightly crispy, red chili powder, chaat masala, dry mango powder, roasted cumin powder, and salt according to taste are incorporated. All the spices are mixed thoroughly with the peas and cooked for another 2 minutes. After turning off the stove, a little fresh lemon juice and finely chopped fresh coriander leaves are mixed into it. This process elevates the taste of the peas even further, making them perfect to serve alongside piping hot evening tea. Rather than bringing packaged namkeen from the market, this option made from ingredients available right at home brings a wonderful change in both taste and lifestyle.
