A 23-year-old woman named Lalita lost her life under suspicious circumstances at Bangur Hospital in Pali, Rajasthan, shortly after delivering a baby girl via cesarean section. Lalita, the wife of Pawan Nagaura from Pokaran, was admitted to the government medical facility on Sunday after going into labor. Medical teams performed surgical delivery, and she successfully gave birth to a healthy newborn. However, the initial relief turned tragic late Sunday night when Lalita experienced sudden and acute physiological complications, eventually succumbing during treatment.
Allegations of Neglect by Duty Staff
The sudden demise triggered intense grief and anger among Lalita's relatives, who levelled direct accusations against the duty doctors and medical staff assigned to the maternity ward. According to the family, when Lalita's vital signs and condition began deteriorating post-surgery, they repeatedly alerted the on-duty healthcare personnel. They alleged that despite repeated pleas, the hospital staff failed to administer timely and adequate emergency care. The relatives maintained that proactive medical intervention at the onset of complications could have saved the young mother's life.
Hospital Standoff and Police Deployment
Following her death, authorities shifted Lalita's body to the mortuary of Bangur Hospital. A large gathering of relatives, acquaintances, and community members assembled outside the mortuary premises, demanding a transparent official inquiry and accountability for the doctors on shift. Recognizing the volatile situation on the hospital campus, administrative officials dispatched police personnel to secure the area and prevent any disruption. Police officials and hospital administrators initiated dialogue with the grieving family, offering assurances that an inquiry adhering to statutory procedures would be carried out.
Newborn in Pediatric Care Amid Broader Systemic Scrutiny
The newborn baby girl, who was left motherless within hours of birth, remains under close observation in the pediatric ward of Bangur Hospital, where pediatric specialists are monitoring her health. This fatal occurrence in Pali follows a similar recent tragedy in Kota, where a woman died under allegations of treatment delays and negligence, sparking wide protests over healthcare standards across Rajasthan. The recurring pattern of post-delivery fatalities has once again cast a spotlight on emergency responsiveness and post-operative monitoring standards in state-run hospitals.
