Tensions flared in the Manoharpur area of Jaipur district following allegations of encroachment on land associated with a local math in Shanti Nagar. As news surfaced that construction activities had been initiated on the premises, dozens of local villagers swiftly mobilized and arrived at the location to voice their opposition. The agitated crowd halted all ongoing construction work on the spot. Expressing deep dissatisfaction over the administration's perceived apathy, revered monks of the math joined hands with residents to stage an indefinite sit-in protest at the prominent Gandhi Chowk.
Villagers Allege Inaction Emboldened Land Grabbers
Protesters have openly accused local land mafias of attempting to seize the math's plot by surreptitiously initiating construction. According to the villagers, formal complaints regarding suspected encroachment designs had already been submitted to administrative authorities well in advance. However, the lack of timely and firm interventions allowed the encroachers to act with impunity. The demonstrators argued that the failure of local officials to clarify the legal standing of the plot earlier directly allowed the situation to escalate into a full-scale public dispute.
Plot Tied to Longstanding Religious and Social Activities
Local residents pointed out that the disputed parcel in Shanti Nagar carries deep communal value, serving as a hub for the math's religious gatherings and social functions. When heavy machinery and building materials appeared on the property, community members viewed it as a direct threat to community traditions. A massive crowd assembled quickly to enforce a work stoppage, voicing deep frustration over official neglect. Residents maintained that had authorities properly surveyed the site and addressed the early grievances, the entire stand-off could have been prevented entirely.
Demonstrators Demand Thorough Scrutiny of Revenue Records
With tensions mounting, community elders, monks, and residents marched to Gandhi Chowk, setting up a permanent protest venue. The demonstrators are insisting on an impartial and exhaustive investigation into the title deeds and ownership documents of the math property. They urged the administration to cross-examine current ground realities with official revenue archives to firmly establish who holds title to the land and what its designated public or religious purpose is under official land classifications.
Warning of Extended Agitation Until Encroachers Face Action
The agitating monks and villagers demanded that if the inquiry confirms unauthorized occupation, the illegal construction must be razed immediately and legal proceedings launched against the perpetrators. Emphasizing that the issue involves sacred institution assets rather than a petty territorial dispute, they warned that the sit-in at Gandhi Chowk will continue unabated until concrete administrative steps are taken. Demanding urgent official intervention to defuse the volatile atmosphere, the demonstrators made it clear that they will not vacate the site until clear legal clarity and justice are delivered.
