A major administrative and cultural identity shift is underway in Uttar Pradesh as Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially announced on Sunday that the carpet hub of Bhadohi will now be called Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi. Addressing a large public gathering during his official tour of the district, the Chief Minister paired the renaming announcement with a massive infrastructure push, inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for 112 development projects valued at more than ₹1,340 crore.
A Redefined Identity Honouring Sant Ravidas
Sharing the administrative decision with the public at the venue, the Chief Minister stated, "अब हमारा भदोही जिला संत रविदास नगर भदोही कहलाएगा।" He explained that during Guru Purnima, a clear intent had been outlined to associate the globally recognised carpet-weaving region with the revered medieval bhakti poet and reformer, Sadguru Ravidas Ji Maharaj. By highlighting the saint's lifelong dedication to unifying society through spiritual discipline and moral harmony, the state administration positioned the new designation as an enduring tribute to his cultural legacy.
₹1,340 Crore Allocated Across 112 Civic Projects
The administrative visit delivered tangible backing to the regional economy through the unveiling of 112 distinct civic and infrastructure initiatives. Totaling upwards of ₹1,340 crore in financial outlay, the projects are aimed at enhancing public amenities, civic utilities, and transportation logistics across the district. These investments are projected to provide sustained support to the local artisan community, carpet manufacturers, and the daily lives of residents across the surrounding rural and semi-urban belts.
Focus on Heritage Preservation and Comparison with Pre-2017 Governance
Detailing the governance approach toward public spending, Yogi Adityanath drew a stark contrast between current heritage restoration programs and budgetary practices prior to 2017. He observed that public finances today are allocated directly toward upgrading pilgrimage destinations, preserving cultural landmarks, and beautifying regional heritage assets. The Chief Minister pointed out that before 2017, government funds were directed toward land grabbing under the pretext of constructing boundary walls for burial grounds rather than developing pilgrimage corridors. He emphasised that the double-engine administration put an end to that trend, checked systemic corruption, and transformed Uttar Pradesh into a secure region free from mafia dominance and unrest.
