Rajasthan Police has widened its sports portfolio by formally adding polo to its official athletic disciplines. With this move, the state police department has announced the formation of the country's first dedicated police polo team. The initiative is designed to harness internal riding proficiency and provide personnel interested in equestrian disciplines a structured athletic platform. A launch ceremony followed by an inaugural match was organized on Thursday at the Rajasthan Police Academy.
Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma Inaugurates the Team
The formal launch took place on the academy grounds, where Director General of Police Rajiv Kumar Sharma rolled the ball onto the field to commence both the squad's journey and its opening exhibition match. Senior departmental leadership, including DGP Traffic Malini Agrawal, attended the event. The occasion highlighted the administration's intent to embed sportsmanship, physical conditioning, and structured recreation within the police cadre, setting a new benchmark for law enforcement athletics across the nation.
Opening Clash on the Academy Hockey Ground
The inaugural fixture saw Team Red take on Team Blue at the academy hockey ground. Spectators witnessed equestrian agility matched with stick work as both sides contested possession across the turf. The match demanded high-level coordination between horsemanship and ball control, with players maneuvering their mounts at high speeds to create scoring openings. The dynamic flow of the game showcased both defensive resilience and sharp offensive runs from the participating officers and riders.
Team Blue Defeats Team Red by a 6-2 Margin
Both lineups featured four players each contending for the inaugural honors. Team Red fielded Jitendra Singh, Mayur Gaj Singh, Vijay, and Devendra. In response, Team Blue took the field with Ajay Singh, Shubham Gupta, Rajesh Kumar, and Dungar Singh. Throughout the chukkers, Team Blue maintained superior offensive control, capitalizing effectively on scoring opportunities. By the final whistle, Team Blue secured a convincing victory, concluding the contest with a 6-2 triumph over Team Red.
