A powerful explosion in a congested market center in Tapukara town, located within the Khairthal-Tijara district near Alwar in Rajasthan, triggered widespread panic and chaos. Store owner Ramesh Kumar suffered critical burn injuries when petrol caught fire while he was fueling a motorcycle outside his shop. The blast was so loud that it startled neighboring shopkeepers and pedestrians, causing a rush of concerned citizens to the scene.
Cigarette Thrown from Passing Car Triggers Instant Blast
Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Tapukara, operates a local general merchandise store in the main commercial market. According to area residents, he frequently kept loose petrol in containers outside his premises to sell to local motorists. On the day of the mishap, a motorcyclist whose vehicle had run out of fuel arrived at Ramesh's shop requesting petrol. Ramesh began pouring petrol directly from a bottle into the fuel tank of the motorcycle.
At that exact moment, an automobile passed along the adjacent street. It is believed that an occupant inside the car discarded a lit cigarette onto the pavement. The burning ember ignited the highly volatile gasoline vapors lingering around the filling area. Within seconds, a forceful explosion shattered the air and engulfed the space in flames. Ramesh Kumar, positioned closest to the fuel source, sustained severe burn injuries, while others nearby scrambled to safety.
Panicked Spectators Rescue Victim as Storage Rules Raised
The sound of the detonation echoed through nearby lanes, prompting nearby merchants and residents to rush toward the store. Mindful bystanders stepped in immediately to assist the engulfed shopkeeper and attempt to contain the fire before it could spread to adjacent units. The incident disrupted normal activity and created an atmosphere of fear across the market hub for quite some time.
This dangerous accident has brought intense scrutiny to the illegal retail sale and unchecked storage of hazardous flammable substances in crowded commercial and residential spots. Handling highly combustible fuels like petrol without basic fire safety compliance creates extreme hazards, where even a minor spark can ignite a devastating inferno. Authorities are currently investigating the incident to establish the exact sequence of events and address safety violations.
