Political friction has intensified in the Pushkar region of Ajmer district as local body elections approach, centered around alleged irregularities in the preparation of voter lists. Congress leaders and party workers have launched aggressive protests against the local administration and the government. Under the leadership of party representatives, a delegation met with the sub-divisional magistrate and election officer to submit a formal memorandum, demanding a thorough investigation into the discrepancies and immediate correction of names that were allegedly manipulated or removed unfairly.
Prior to submitting the memorandum, party members staged a sit-in protest outside the administrative offices, raising slogans against the authorities. During the demonstration, severe accusations were leveled against the administration, with participants claiming that officials were acting to benefit the ruling party and intentionally disrupting the electoral process. Highlighting specific examples, leaders pointed out that approximately 50 new voters were suddenly added to a single address in ward 16. The opposition party demanded an immediate verification and removal of these questionable entries, alleging that legitimate supporters of Congress are being systematically excised from the registry while unsupported or fictitious names are being inducted.
Local Representatives Voice Grievances
The controversy deepened as several former local representatives and aspiring candidates came forward with their own grievances regarding the updated rolls. A former municipal representative representing ward 7 raised a formal objection, noting that her family has resided in the same ward for generations and that she has served as a local councillor twice. Despite this background, her entire family's names were scrubbed from the updated voter list. She termed the omission an act of political vendetta and demanded immediate reinstatement. Similarly, a prospective candidate from ward 9 stated that her nomination process was imminent, yet her name was entirely absent from the voter database, prompting urgent demands for rectifications.
Warning of Escalation to Election Commission
Congress leaders issued a stern warning that if all pending complaints are not addressed and the electoral rolls are not rectified promptly, the matter will be escalated to the district collector. Furthermore, party leaders warned that the issue would be taken up with the state election commission through the state party leadership if necessary. A large gathering of local leaders, former civic heads, and party workers marked their presence during the demonstration and memorandum submission, uniting in their demand for absolute transparency and fairness in the upcoming local polls.
