A major safety initiative is underway at Tulsi Ghat along the Yamuna River in the historic Rajapur area of Chitrakoot district to protect visiting devotees. Celebrated as the birthplace of Goswami Tulsidas and deeply connected to the sacred footsteps of Lord Shri Ram, this revered destination attracts pilgrims from across the nation throughout the year. To eliminate drowning risks caused by strong river currents, the local administration has approved the installation of a floating barrier at the ghat. Costing approximately 17 lakh rupees, this specialized aquatic barrier will establish a dedicated safe zone for sacred baths along the Yamuna riverbank.
Demarcating Safe Bathing Boundaries at Tulsi Ghat
The Tulsi Janmakuteer and Manas Mandir located in Rajapur serve as key centers of faith for visiting pilgrims. Devotees routinely gather along the Yamuna River directly in front of the shrine complex to take holy dips. However, the swift river currents and sudden underwater depths have long posed serious hazards for bathers. Unaware of the danger, pilgrims often venture into deep waters, increasing the risk of tragic drowning incidents. The upcoming 17 lakh rupee floating barrier will create a clear physical perimeter inside the river. Once operational, bathers will remain restricted to the designated safe zone, preventing accidental movement beyond the danger mark.
Installation to Begin Post Floodwaters Recede
The Yamuna River is currently experiencing high water levels and strong currents due to ongoing flood conditions. Chitrakoot District Magistrate Pulkit Garg outlined the administration's blueprint for the project, emphasizing that pilgrim safety remains the top priority. He stated that floating barrier installation will commence immediately after the floodwaters normalize and the river flow stabilizes. Once fully set up, the floating barrier will provide a secure bathing environment for thousands of devotees while assisting local authorities in maintaining effective crowd safety management along the riverbank.
