Evidence of this ancient heritage is still visible today in Hastinapur, located about 45 kilometers away from Meerut. According to assistant professor Priyank Bharti, an expert who has been conducting research on various aspects related to Hastinapur, every single particle of Hastinapur and Fort Parikshitgarh resonates with the presence of Lord Krishna. There are several temples built across these areas which carry legends linking them directly to the divine journey of Lord Krishna.
When visitors first travel to the Mahabharata-era Draupadi Temple located in Hastinapur, they witness a truly unique sight. Lord Krishna is enthroned right alongside Draupadi inside the temple sanctum. This shrine depicts that dramatic episode of disrobing when Draupadi called out to Lord Krishna, and the deity miraculously intervened to protect her dignity.
A similar historical mention is associated with Parikshitgarh Fort. Legend has it that when the great war of the Mahabharata was about to begin, Lord Krishna made earnest efforts to halt the bloodshed. As part of these peace initiatives, he also reached near the Gandhari Pond located at Parikshitgarh Fort. It is said he rested there overnight while attempting to negotiate a treaty between warring factions, although an ancient Shiva temple now stands at the site alongside the very tree that existed back then.
The historic Auchalnath Temple situated in the Meerut Cantonment also houses idols of Lord Radha Krishna, drawing immense devotion from followers. During the sacred festival of Janmashtami, the temple is adorned extensively with flowers sourced from across the country and abroad. Worshippers who offer prayers to Lord Krishna and Radha find their wishes fulfilled. A special highlight of Janmashtami here is gently swinging Lord Laddu Gopal in a pure silver cradle.
The bond between Lord Krishna and his devotees is considered unique, and that relationship is reflected at the Sri Balaji Temple located at Budhana Gate, which also enshrines Lord Radha Krishna. According to temple committee official Dr. Gaurav Pathak, his grandmother sold all her personal jewelry to install the silver idols of Lord Krishna and Radha Mata in this temple, generating profound local devotion.
Similarly, the Lord Krishna temple situated in Meerut Sarafa commands immense reverence among local residents and traders. Jewelry merchants organize grand celebrations for Janmashtami every year with unique ritualistic traditions. On special occasions, Lord Krishna is adorned with crowns made of silver and diamonds, alongside elaborate artistic styling. Believers hold firm faith that heartfelt prayers offered here are always answered.
Devotees also display immense faith in ISKCON traditions, where followers chant the Mahamantra while dancing in spiritual ecstasy. Reflecting this devotion, an ISKCON temple has been established in the Shastri Nagar area of Meerut. Large crowds of worshippers gather here to offer prayers following authentic ISKCON practices and rituals.
