The ancient Shri Siddhanath and Shri Mote Nath Mahadev Temple located in Bandaraha village within the Mankapur block of Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district is witnessing a massive rush of devotees during the ongoing holy month of Sawan. Believers arrive in large numbers every day to perform sacred water offerings and seek blessings at this revered shrine. According to local beliefs, offering prayers and performing holy rituals with pure devotion at this temple fulfills all wishes of the worshippers.
Discovery of the Twin Shivlings During Railway Construction
The establishment of this historic temple carries a fascinating backstory linked to infrastructure development in the region. Many years ago, during the excavation work for a new railway line passing nearby, workers discovered the sacred Shivling of Shri Siddhanath Mahadev buried in the earth. Around the same period, another excavation at a different location within the village unearthed the Shivling of Shri Mote Nath Mahadev. Recognizing the spiritual significance of both discoveries, the local villagers collectively decided to consecrate both Shivlings inside a single temple complex, enabling devotees to worship both divine forms together at one location. Following this community decision, the Shivling of Shri Siddhanath Mahadev was installed first, establishing the foundation of the current shrine.
Sawan Celebrations, Daily Rituals and Special Fairs
With the onset of Sawan, the temple precincts stay filled with pilgrims from early morning until late evening. Temple caretaker Nekram noted that devotees arrive carrying holy water, sacred belpatra leaves, dhatura, fresh flowers, and traditional worship materials to carry out jalabhisheka and rudrabhisheka rituals. Continuous chants of Har Har Mahadev and Bam Bam Bhole echo throughout the complex, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere. While the entire month features a vibrant local fair around the shrine, Mondays and Fridays see particularly large gatherings of devotees performing elaborate prayers.
