Today marks a rare convergence of Sawan's second Monday and Pradosh Vrat, making worship during the designated evening muhurat highly auspicious.

The second Monday of the holy month of Sawan coincides today with a rare and auspicious Pradosh Vrat alignment, elevating the spiritual significance of the day. According to traditional beliefs, engaging in the devotion of Lord Shiva on this day brings peace and prosperity while eradicating all sorrows from a devotee's life. Based on the panchang, the Pradosh kalesh worship muhurat for today, 10 August 2026, spans from 07:05 PM to 09:14 PM. Scriptures note that performing rituals for Lord Shiva during this specific timeframe yields immense rewards. Along with standard worship procedures, reciting or listening to the Som Pradosh Vrat Katha during this window is considered mandatory to complete the fast successfully. Let us explore the sacred legend behind this fast.

The Legend Of Som Pradosh Vrat

As per the narrative, a destitute Brahmin widow lived in a certain town after the passing of her husband. Her only companion and support was her young son. Every morning, she would take her boy and venture out into the city to beg for alms. One evening while returning home, she encountered an injured young boy lying on the path. The kind-hearted woman brought him into her home, unaware at the time that the youth she rescued was actually the prince of Vidarbha. Enemy forces had previously invaded his kingdom, captured his father, and usurped his throne, leaving him to wander aimlessly in distress.

The prince began living at the Brahmin's humble residence. Sometime later, a Gandharva maiden named Anshumati caught sight of the prince and fell in love with him. The following day, Anshumati brought her parents to meet the young man, and they too grew very fond of him. Not long after, Anshumati's parents beheld Lord Shiva in a dream, where the deity instructed them to arrange the marriage of the prince and Anshumati. They followed the divine directive without hesitation.

Restoration Of The Kingdom Through Vrat Power

Meanwhile, the pious Brahmin woman regularly observed the Pradosh Vrat with strict discipline. Through the spiritual merit of her fasting combined with the military assistance of the Gandharva king, the prince successfully drove out the enemy forces from Vidarbha and reclaimed his ancestral kingdom. Upon regaining his crown, the prince appointed the Brahmin's son as his prime minister. Thus, through the grace and blessings accrued from the Brahmin's Pradosh Vrat, both the prince and the Brahmin-पुत्र lived a life of abundant happiness and prosperity.

Just as the fortunes of the prince and the young Brahmin were transformed through the observance of the Pradosh Vrat, Lord Shiva likewise bestows his grace upon all his devoted followers. Hail Har Har Mahadev!

To deepen your worship today, you can also recite the sacred Om Jai Gangadhar Jai Har Aarti to invite divine blessings.
